Day-by-Day Breakdown
Day 1: Arrival and Settling In
You land in Medellín, and our driver’s waiting at José María Córdova Airport to whisk you to your homestay. Your Paisa host family welcomes you with open arms and probably some fresh arepas. At the evening orientation, you meet your group (small, like 6-8 people), get a rundown of the week, and maybe sip some aguapanela while chatting about what’s to come. Jet-lagged? No worries, crash early in your comfy private room.
Day 2: Spanish Kickoff & First Salsa Steps
Morning starts with your first 4-hour Spanish class at a language school in El Poblado, Medellín’s trendy heart. Teachers are native speakers, super patient, and they mix in fun activities like role-playing local market scenarios. After a quick lunch (not included, but there’s cheap empanadas nearby), you head to your first salsa lesson at a nearby studio. Your instructor, probably someone who’s danced salsa since they could walk, breaks down the basic steps. You’ll be stumbling a bit, but it’s all laughs. Dinner with your homestay family means practicing your new Spanish phrases over bandeja paisa.
Day 3: Spanish Deep Dive & Salsa Groove
Back to class for another 4 hours of Spanish. Today, you might learn how to haggle like a local or chat about Colombian culture. The lessons are chill but focused, and you’ll already feel your confidence growing. Afternoon salsa class gets spicier—maybe you’re learning a turn or two. Your instructor’s got stories about Medellín’s salsa scene, and you’re starting to feel the rhythm. Evening’s free; your homestay family might invite you to watch a local soccer game on TV, perfect for practicing those new vocab words.
Day 4: Comuna 13 & Dance Fever
Morning Spanish class, and you’re picking up speed—maybe throwing around some slang like “parce” already. After lunch, it’s time for the Comuna 13 tour. Your local guide walks you through this colorful neighborhood, pointing out murals that tell stories of resilience. You’ll ride the famous escalators and snap a million pics. Back at the studio, your salsa lesson builds on yesterday’s moves. You’re not a pro yet, but you’re starting to sway like you mean it. Dinner with the family might include ajiaco soup, and you’re chatting more in Spanish than you expected.
Day 5: Spanish Flow & Salsa Swagger
Another 4 hours of Spanish in the morning, and you’re amazed at how much you’re picking up. Classes might include a group chat about Colombian music or history, tying into what you saw in Comuna 13. Afternoon salsa class is where you start to shine—maybe you even try a partner dance. Tonight’s the group dinner at a local restaurant, where you’ll taste sancocho and maybe try some local lingo with your new pals. It’s a blast, but you might butcher a few words (don’t worry, everyone’s cheering you on).
Day 6: Final Lessons & Salsa Showoff
Last day of classes! Your Spanish is noticeably better—you’re ordering coffee without hesitation. The final salsa lesson is your chance to show off. The instructor might even bring in a live band for a mini-dance party. You’ll feel like a local, even if you step on a few toes. Evening’s free, so maybe hit a local salsa bar with your group (optional, not included) or chill with your homestay family, swapping stories in Spanish.
Day 7: Farewell Medellín
No classes today, just time to pack and say goodbye to your host family. They might slip you a little gift, like a bag of Colombian coffee. Airport transfer’s included, so you’re off to catch your flight, buzzing with new Spanish skills, salsa moves, and memories of Medellín’s magic.
